LAUREL, Md. (WJLA) – Almost 600 grams of marijuana and close to 3 grams of cocaine were found with over $9,000 at a home in Laurel where a daycare was being run, according to authorities.

Anne Arundel County Police confirmed they had a warrant to search a home at 8602 Accokeek Street at around 2 p.m on Sunday. The Sultana Saba Daycare is a licensed facility in the home’s basement, police say.

During the search, police say they found 595.33 grams of marijuana, 2.96 grams of cocaine, $9,305, a heat sealer machine and “various paraphernalia and packaging materials.”

Authorities say children did not have access to the area where the drugs were found.

The amount of marijuana is estimated to be worth close to $11,906 while the cocaine is thought to be worth about $59.

Police say they arrested 18-year-old Kamran Awan, who lived at the home, and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The Maryland Department of Education Licensing Branch has been told to look into the matter.
