Get to Know Tom Frizzell S1-E23
Tom was born in Southeastern Oklahoma in 1940. His father was a carpenter, and he often moved wherever the work took him. In 1947, his family settled in Arizona, where he made a permanent home in Surprise, Arizona.
Graduating from high school in 1958, he started college, and quickly realized that he wasn't quite ready for more school. In 1959, Tom joined the U.S. Army and became a Misseleman, using a Nike Hercules missile battery that protected Pittsburgh, PA from potential air assaults. Later, he was transferred to Germany, near Stuttgart, where Tom completed his service and received discharge papers in 1962.
In 1968 Tom arrived in Vietnam. He was assigned to the 269th Combat Aviation Battalion in Cu Chi, northwest of Saigon. As the sole Signal Corps officer, he served as battalion communications officer while also flying missions and by the grace of God, he came home from his tour with the Army.
You won't believe that Tom's wife became very ill and in 2015 and she received a double-lung transplant. He became her caregiver which precluded him from being involved in other activities. She lived for 3 1/2 years succumbing to numerous afflictions in 2018.
