A Grandmother’s Love: Turning Loss into a Mission of Courage and Purpose
Behind every bold step we take in life, there’s often someone whose love first gave us the courage to dream. For me, that person was my grandmother. She embodied unconditional love—so much so that even when my parents came to pick me up, she held onto me as if letting go meant losing a piece of her heart. She cooked, gardened, crocheted, and even conquered her fear of driving just to be there for me. But in pouring so much of herself into others, she neglected her own health and passed away from breast cancer at just 55. Today, as I live beyond the years she was given, I carry her spirit into my mission: to help women prioritize themselves and break free from burnout. I choose courage, even when fear whispers otherwise, because life is short and meant to be fully lived. Whether it’s traveling, immersing myself in history at museums, or embracing quiet discoveries alone, I honor her legacy with every bold step forward.

My guest on this episode of The True North Show is a beautiful friend of mine who is also my business partner, a major sponsor of this show and someone who isn’t a stranger to being on a TV show with me. Beth and I discuss how important breathwork is when it comes to calming our nervous system and she shares her journey on how it all started and how, at times, she just needs to take “one breath at a time”. Bio: Beth Lewis is “The Holistic Alchemist” and Founder of MYnd CENTRE, where she integrates science and soul to empower Mums and families so they can heal at a cellular level – creating lives of freedom, vitality, and deep connection. At MYnd CENTRE, Beth creates a safe and supportive space for deep healing, drawing on her own journey of overcoming life’s challenges. Her holistic approach weaves together Breathwork, Sound Healing, Reiki, Life & Wellness Coaching, and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), to release trauma stored in the body, dissolve limiting beliefs, and nurture overall wellbeing, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. By helping individuals regulate their nervous system, reduce cortisol levels, and reconnect with their inner child, she guides them toward living calmer, more grounded, and present lives. With Beth’s patient guidance, her clients can: heal their inner child and rediscover their sense of purpose; improve self-esteem and regain control of their lives; replace feelings of anger and resentment with meaningful connections; clear "Brain Fog" for heightened clarity; and reduce stress and enhance energy levels. Unlike traditional therapists, Beth’s intuitive style and unique methods offer transformative experiences that help others reclaim their personal power. On this episode of the Make Mental Health Matter Show with host Kelli Melissa Reinhardt, with special guest Chaandani Khan. Little bit about Chaandani’s story from her: A concussion brain injury completely derailed my life 6 years ago. I went from being an outgoing person who worked, had a busy social life, volunteered, had hobbies and was physically active -- to a person who could no longer remember how to make a sandwich, nor follow basic conversations with ease. On a personal note, I know the strength it takes to find acceptance while still in the fire, and what it takes internally to rebuild your life with intention. On a professional note, going through this experience allowed me to identify key gaps in service and systems that patients face, and the demand for a new path forward. I am now an educator for medical and allied healthcare concussion practitioners and am focused on leading systemic change in the delivery of concussion care. Short bio: Six years ago a brain injury derailed Chaandani’s entire life, which left her navigating PPCS (persistent post-concussive symptoms) and an overwhelming amount of loss. Preparing a cup of tea, washing clothes and sending a single email became monumental challenges and her familiar, fast-paced lifestyle appeared impossibly far out of reach. Going through years of recovery appointments and eventually ingraining herself in the concussion space allowed her to identify key gaps in service and systems that patients face, and the demand for a new path forward. Chaandani is now an educator for medical and allied healthcare practitioners who serve the concussion and PPCS population. She brings a wealth of knowledge gained through experience plus research, and is focused on leading systemic change in the delivery of concussion care.
