Do you attach who you are to what you do for a living? When I was laid off from my last corporate gig, I didn’t know who I was for a while because I was no longer a team leader.
Sometimes we need to reinvent ourselves. And many women ask, “who am I now that things have changed?” So, I invited my guest to share her story with you.
Avery Thatcher is CEO and founder of the Inner Stillness Outer Chaos Podcast and the Flow State Membership. When she started her career as a Registered Nurse working in ICU, she noticed that many patients were there because of illnesses and diseases linked to chronic stress.
So, she got out of the reactive side of medicine and started helping highly sensitive high achievers prevent burnout and reverse the adverse health effects of stress. After experiencing a significant health challenge in 2018, Avery had to learn to redefine her identity and grieve the loss of who she used to be.
I thought hearing this story and her tips might help some of you.

In this episode, we’ll dig into how women can play the corporate game better, leverage our natural abilities and strengths, and use them to our advantage. Plus, we’ll get my guest’s perspective on leadership, and how women have levers they may not pull.
My guest is Rochelle Janssens from Brisbane, Australia. Rochelle works with quietly determined career women ready to move into their first or next leadership role so they can make a bigger difference in the corporate game.
Becoming a leader as a woman is often a different journey than for men, and Rochelle believes it helps to know the current rules of the game, so we can use them to our advantage and eventually be in a position to change the practices to benefit everyone.
Her experience has taught her that leadership is about who you are being, not what you are doing, so she works with her clients to become a leader from the inside out. As a result, rather than being overworked and overwhelmed, her clients shine as their best selves, attracting the right people and opportunities without the crazy hours and elevated stress levels.

For the working moms in our audience or anyone who struggles with work-life balance, I invite you to listen carefully to this conversation with Karen Clark Salinas. Her story will likely strike a chord, and her lessons about work-life balance are powerful.

Karen is a national board-certified health and wellness coach and the founder of Rebalance Wellbeing. She’s on a mission to help overloaded working moms redefine their work-life balance, so their goals and dreams don’t take a back seat to a crazy busy life. Or worse yet, never see the light of day.
Karen believes that when we empower working moms with these skills, they can raise kids who understand what healthy work-life looks like as adults — making a valuable contribution to a better world. I call that creating harmony.

S6E07 - Navigating Life Transitions: Caring for Aging Parents
Life transitions can affect our careers in many ways, but few are as challenging as caring for aging parents while managing a responsible corporate position. Many of us may be facing this challenge now or will be soon.
In this episode, I chat with Kim & Mike Barnes, award-winning journalists with more than 30 years of experience in TV. While their two kids are recent college graduates, they are currently caring for parents in their 80s, including Mike’s mother, who has advanced Alzheimer’s, and Kim’s single mother, who faces different challenges.
Drawing on their personal and professional experiences, Kim & Mike recognized a need for advice and resources for adult children in similar situations. So, in 2021, they launched Parenting Aging Parents to provide caregivers with content, connection, and community. Their goal is to ensure that no one feels alone during this challenging time and has the information and resources needed to navigate this stage of life.
This episode explores their journey and discusses adult children’s common challenges when caring for aging parents. In addition, Kim & Mike offer valuable advice and resources for those in a similar situation, such as finding the proper care for your loved ones, balancing work with caregiving responsibilities, and self-care.
This episode is for you if you are going through a similar experience or want to learn more about navigating life transitions. S7 E2 - The Invisible Barriers for Professional Women
Tips for the Transition: The Career Roadmap Podcast
It’s no secret that professional women have struggled for decades to meet the challenges of the corporate world. We’ve met barriers—jumped over them, glided around them, and sometimes have been stuck behind them. It got me wondering if this will ever change. I’m happy to say some brilliant women are working on it.
Join me in my conversation with Valerie Sutton, a remarkable leader in workforce development and the Chief of Workforce Navigation and Transformation at Exponential Changemakers. Valerie’s mission is to empower professional women early in their careers, helping them navigate the ever-evolving workplace, break down barriers, and propel their careers forward.
Valerie shares her extraordinary career trajectory, from completely pivoting her profession to becoming a true trailblazer. She’s even taken the bold step of developing a parallel career and eventually becoming an entrepreneur. As a LinkedIn Learning Instructor and a renowned workforce development expert, she has lent her expertise to four prestigious U.S. universities and consulted with numerous others, assisting them in making data-informed decisions to advance their students’ careers.
Valerie faced a persistent challenge throughout her journey: being a woman in a male-dominated professional world. Despite working tirelessly and achieving impressive results, she was dishearteningly informed on three pivotal occasions that her success was attributed to her appearance. The underlying message?
