In this inspiring episode of "The Health Revolution," we have the honor of featuring Sylvia Waller, who has not only shattered beauty pageant stereotypes by becoming Mrs. Colorado at age 62 but has also redefined the essence of beauty through her remarkable journey. As the first African American to hold the title in 32 years and only the second since the inception of the America Mrs. Pageant system in 1939, Sylvia's story is one of perseverance, grace, and the power of embracing one's uniqueness.
Sylvia believes that true beauty has no age, shape, or color and that it originates from the heart. Her fruitful spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control shines through, illuminating her external beauty and inspiring others to recognize their own.
Beyond the pageant stage, Sylvia is dedicated to serving her community as a volunteer Community Educator for the Alzheimer’s Association, driven by her family's history with Alzheimer's and dementia-related diseases. She passionately educates and raises awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, diet, exercise, and the connection to brain health, mental health, and aging gracefully.
During her reign, Sylvia has been honored with several awards, including the Northwestern Douglas County Chamber “Women Who Soar” award and the Health and Wellness Initiate “Be Well” award, among others. These accolades celebrate her contributions to redefining beauty standards and her commitment to community service.
