From Basketball to Community Advocate
James Donaldson is a British-American former NBA player who played 14 seasons and several years in Europe, for a total 0f 20 years in professional basketball. During the 1984–85 NBA season, he led the league in field goal percentage at 0.637—still one of the ten highest percentages in NBA history.
After a major health setback James dealt with significant depression and had thoughts of suicide. He recovered by building a team around him to help provide structure and support. He was able to draw from his sports career and saw the power in teamwork. From that experience, James has created a non-profit foundation “Your Gift of Life Foundation” that is a voice to an advocate and voice for mental health and suicide prevention. The foundations objectives are: to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, and to provide scholarships to students of color and international students going into the mental health field.

What happens when faith becomes action?
In this episode of Seizing Your Greatness, Bill Good reveals the connection between inner peace and outer transformation. From reconciliation training to pastoral leadership, Bill shares how his journey helped him shape a powerful message of healing for individuals, families, and organizations alike.
Inside the episode-
• His journey from ministry to media
• How to lead through trauma
• Why reconciliation is the foundation of change
• The GOOD life and what it really means
About Bill Good:
Bill is a four-time bestselling author, a TEDx speaker, and the CEO of Path to Peace. His transformational work combines spiritual wisdom, advanced leadership training, and heartfelt storytelling to create space for healing and growth.
Elijah Courtright is the fourth of six children in a close-knit family of five boys and one girl. From an early age, Elijah stood out for his bright outlook and deep compassion for others. A dedicated cross-country runner from sixth grade through his freshman year, he embraced challenges with enthusiasm and drive. At age 15, his life took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with mitochondrial dysfunction disorder—a condition that shifted him from running miles to struggling to walk.
Despite countless doctor visits, setbacks, and emotional trials, Elijah’s resilience never wavered. His persistent spirit, unwavering faith, and Christlike kindness continue to shine through. Known as a natural peacemaker, Elijah brings warmth, humility, and quiet strength to everyone around him. His journey is a powerful reminder that true strength is found not only in endurance, but in compassion, character, and courage.
Ana Hebra Flaster, a Cuban refugee, journalist, and author of memoir Property of the Revolution has an incredible story.
At age five, Ana fled Cuba in a 48-hour escape that upended her life, and rebuilt it in a New Hampshire mill town. Her memoir is funny, raw, and full of fierce love, told through the voices of the women who raised her. Think exile, identity, matriarchs, trauma, and survival… all with a sense of humor and a battle cry of “ponte guapa” (“make yourself brave”).
Ana reminds us to talk to our elders. Hear their stories and learn from them. You can record them as well. Don't lose your legacy and history.
Thank you, Ana, for your heartfelt conversation. Your whole family is so inspiring, endearing, and will stay in our hearts long after we read your book.
Bio:
Ana Hebra Flaster has written about Cuba and the Cuban American experience for national print and online media including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and the Boston Globe, as well as for her popular Substack, @CubaCurious. Her commentaries and storytelling have also aired on NPR and PBS’s Stories from the Stage. Property of the Revolution, her first book, has won early recognition in several international writing competitions, including being shortlisted in the 2023 Restless Book’s New Immigrant Writing Prize and the 2022 Cintas Creative Writing Fellowship. She loves watching birds, walking in the woods, and chatting with just about anyone. After almost forty years in the Boston area, she recently moved back to southern New Hampshire with her husband, Andy, and their Havenese pups, Luna and Beny Moré.

We need to protect spaces where men can be men as it means they are better able to shape themselves authentically with course correction from each other. What a great conversation with Coach and Bushcraft Instructor Tom Gold about the huge benefits of nature as the setting for mental health intervention. It’s not the “walk and talk” – but the talk that comes out of the outdoor experience that is hugely important.
