Trauma Responses You Don’t Realize Are Wrecking Your Mental Health Season 5 Ep 13
Some of the habits you call “my personality” are actually your nervous system trying to survive.
In this episode of Girl Talk Mental Health, host Virginia Dale Manning, LPC, sits down with special guest Erica Fulton, LPC, to uncover the invisible trauma responses that quietly sabotage your peace—without you even realizing it.
We’re talking about the everyday patterns that look normal on the outside… but feel like chaos on the inside:
• Overthinking that never turns off (even when life is “fine”)
• People-pleasing that drains your soul and leaves you resentful
• Shutting down, going numb, or “disappearing” emotionally
• Hyper-independence that sounds strong—but feels lonely
• Snapping, spiraling, or staying on guard like something bad is always about to happen
If you’ve been telling yourself:
“I’m just tired.” “This is just how I am.” “I don’t have trauma.” “I should be over it by now.”
…this conversation is for you.
You’ll learn how to spot your trauma response in real time, why it’s showing up, and what healthy tools can help you feel safe again—without shame, without self-blame, and without pretending you’re okay.
