Thriving After an Aneurysm

Joy Roane was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1964. She was raised by her grandmother in York, PA, a pleasant predominantly white neighborhood. When York went through racial unrest and riot, causing the city to call in the national guard; she was told ‘children are to be seen and not heard’ and she learned to WATCH everything. As she got older, she wanted to show the love of God to all…that love that was not caught up on the color of someone’s skin. Her father and grandfather both served in the military and told her to go into the military and do her best, so she could serve without the struggles of her hometown. In the Navy she was an early promote for Chief when the unthinkable happened…a ruptured brain aneurysm of the largest artery in the brain. The hospital gave her no chance of living, but her mother said, ‘I kept telling her, don’t go into the light’!!!! She remained in a coma for 18 days. Joy wanted to remain in service, but she was medically retired and left to rehab for herself. She thanks God that she worked in an Operating Room with neurosurgeons and understood how the brain needed to recover. For additional recovery options, she moved to Colorado for care at Fort Carson. Now she is bringing her dreams of helping others to fruition, with the help of Achieve Systems.
