In 2019, Jeremy Butler was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder type 1. According to the National Institute of Health, Bipolar I disorder is defined by manic episodes that last for at least 7 days (nearly every day for most of the day) or by manic symptoms that are so severe that the person needs immediate medical care. Usually, depressive episodes occur as well, typically lasting at least 2 weeks. Jeremy hasn’t let bipolar define him, though!
Jeremy enjoys baseball, traveling, science fiction, heavy metal, and video games. Jeremy has a bachelor's degree in History, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry degree. He has served as a missionary in Asia, a pastor for six years in New Mexico, and presently serves as a campus missionary with Christian Challenge at the University of Arizona.

Shawna Cook is the grandmother of Hillis, wife of 29 years, and mother of 3. She works full-time as a nurse and volunteers with Hydrocephalus Association as Chair for the St. Pete Walk to End Hydrocephalus. Shawna's grandson was born last March with Hydrocephalus and had his first surgery just one week after birth. It was a difficult time for the family, as this was her son and daughter-in-law's first child and grandchild for their families.
Shawna began to do some research on hydrocephalus and in her study found the Hydrocephalus Association. Shawna began to learn everything she could to help her son with this new diagnosis but also because her new grandchild would be living with this condition. Shawna had heard of hydrocephalus before but really didn't know how it would affect her grandson and what the impact would be on her family. The HA opened up a whole new community, resources, education, and research geared toward hope and finding a cure for Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a condition where the ventricles in the brain become enlarged due to the accumulation of CSF that is not being drained into the body, therefore, putting pressure on the brain. Currently, a shunt is the only treatment. Shawna's grandson lives with Hydrocephalus as do so many others and she is passionate for this cause.

Effie Siverts is a 44-year-old mother of two teenage boys. From childhood, she was challenged with many unusual health conditions such as extreme flexibility (and dreams of becoming a contortionist), easy bruising, heart arrhythmia by age 6, chronic respiratory illness, rib and joint subluxations, Si joint dysfunction, GI issues, and recurrent throat abscesses.
By her early twenties, doctors would joke that they should do a study of her but only provided a simple diagnosis of benign hypermobility syndrome and told her to 'live life carefully'. Daily living tasks were a struggle and pregnancies had their risks and complications. By age 38, Effie had spent 29 years in chiropractic care and 15+ years in and out of physical and pelvic therapies only to undergo major pelvic and abdominal reconstructive surgery due to hernias and prolapsing weak connective tissues.
Ongoing post-operative prolapse led Effie to finally receive the diagnosis of a genetic disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (Type 3 Hypermobility). This diagnosis connected her lifelong struggles under the umbrella of this condition - an abnormality in how her body produces collagen, therefore affecting every facet of her body. Currently, coping and management strategies are the only tools available, and now Effie is teaching her strategies to her children who are manifesting symptoms of their own.

Kimberly Lee is a 44 year old woman who lives with 3 invisible illnesses. The first two, which were discovered at birth are Hydrocephalus, and Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Later in life she was also diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. Due to these medical conditions she has undergone 7 brain surgeries, and 2 open-heart surgeries. In addition to those, prior to her Chiari Malformation diagnosis she also had a non-cancerous growth removed from her right temporal lobe and 7 wrist operations. The neurological conditions affect her short term memory, and not as often, her balance and coordination. She also has daily nerve pain in her left arm and hand. Jeff Pearson was born in Ft. Collins, CO, in 1977. When he was just 2 weeks old, it was confirmed that he had hydrocephalus caused by aqueductal stenosis. Very soon after, he had his first brain surgery. Over the next few years, he had several surgeries, most related to hydrocephalus, through about age 10. Growing up, his parents always had a great way of being positive and encouraging and – instead of telling Jeff all the things he couldn’t or shouldn’t do because of his diagnosis – they pointed him in the direction of things that he could do. As a result, he had an amazing childhood that included skateboarding, snowboarding, getting a driver’s license, and making it through high school.
After high school he traveled around the world for a year as a singer with a group called Up with People. In his early twenties he married his wife, Catherine, continued to be a productive working adult, and raised three wonderful children.
Between 2013 and 2023, Jeff had 6 more surgeries – 5 of them were directly related to hydrocephalus and the sixth was complicated by the hydrocephalus-related surgeries. Having 4 brain surgeries in 8 years took its toll and Jeff experienced several health challenges (migraines, cluster headaches, seizures, dizziness, and severe, involuntary ticks). These challenges limited his ability to work at the company that he’d been part of since 2011.
Despite all that, Jeff and Catherine started Hydro with Hope, a company born out of Jeff’s desire to serve the hydrocephalus community by offering tangible help and encouragement through online and in-person resources. To that end, Jeff & Catherine created a journal called “My Hydrowarrior Story”, designed to help people with hydrocephalus to be able to record their journey from diagnosis to surgery and beyond.
Jeff also loves speaking to audiences to increase awareness, tell his story, and to continue to share the journal with the world. Jeff would LOVE to speak to your organization about his story and share the HOPE that everyone can have despite challenges in life.

Kelly Tuttle joined the “head injury survivors club” (as she describes it) in 2015, the night another car pulled in front of her as she was driving. It wasn’t until three months later that she realized something was seriously wrong. Kelly’s traumatic brain injury (TBI) marked the beginning of a new life and personal journey of self-rediscovery.
As a neurology nurse practitioner, Kelly has a front-row seat to observe patients struggling with many of the same things she experienced in her recovery. She strives to share her coping strategies & tools and help TBI survivors continue to work and study while they heal. In her book, “After the Crash,” Kelly answers the question, “How can I thrive day-to-day when healing is a battle?” Kelly also wants TBI patients to know there is hope. Eric Siverts was born in 1940, before food allergies were a major cultural concern, but when he was in kindergarten a lunch lady made him eat a blob of peanut butter and he got very sick. This was the start of a life-long severe anaphylactic allergy to peanuts.
Throughout his life he’s had several life-threatening reactions including some that landed him in an emergency room. After a difficult military deployment, Leland Holgate decided to get some rest & relaxation. There was a boating accident and Leland was left as a quadriplegic. He was told that this could be his condition for life, so he asked the nurses to move his arms and legs. After the first couple of days he started feeling tingles down his mid back and feeling came back to his upper body. It took about 2 months for most of the feeling to come back and to gain the ability to walk assisted. Unbeknownst to him, his physical therapist was using yoga postures to help with his recovery. He was walking normally in about a year.
Following the boating accident and amazing recovery, Leland fell into a cycle of emotional pain, alcohol, and hard street drugs. After a few years, he was introduced to a yoga program. He noticed the more he practiced yoga, the more his pain diminished and his mind focused. Leland knew he had found his calling when he started training to become a yoga instructor. Further down the line, he became a 500-hour E-RYT, Fitness instructor, and also became a trauma informed yoga instructor, working in somatic based therapies with Trauma Recovery Yoga. For about the last 5 years, he has helped create space for others to find themselves and overcome physical & mental limitations through yoga.
Although Leland knew he was on the right path, the challenges didn’t stop. In 2016 his military father committed suicide and became part of the over 22 of our servicemen and women who take their lives every day. He decided that it was his calling to show our military brothers and sisters how to find balance, and transition back to civilian life after military service. So he created Warriors for Life America. A non-profit concentrating on bringing balance back to the lives of our Military, Veterans, and first responders. Leland is excited to make a difference and he loves to add value to others’ lives.
In 2019, Leland was in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Thankfully, in 2017 a friend gave him the book “Becoming Supernatural”, and it changed his life. He practiced the pineal gland meditation every morning, and did at least 2 to 3 blessings of the energy centers. Within two weeks he was able to move his toes slightly, and move his legs with assistance. Leland was released home, and began the process of physical therapy. After almost 7 months, Leland was able to walk with assistance. Within a year of the accident, he was able to walk unassisted, so he got back to yoga and normal activities. Since that time, he has dedicated himself to helping others do the same, and introduce everyone he knows, and come into contact with, to Dr. Joe Dispenza’s work. We have helped thousands with our nonprofit, and now with The Willful Warrior we can help many more!

Zak Clayton is the founder of Community Pay it Forward, Community Dare to Care and the PACT Channels. Zak founded Clayton Consulting & Event Planning LLC (CCEP) on June 5th, 2015, after being hit by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle. Friends, family, and small local businesses came to Zak’s bedside and worked hard to assist his family and alleviate the pressure from a bad situation. However, where Zak and his family could not find help was with the resource providers who are bound to a budget. He started to develop a program to aid people who find themselves in trouble after January 1st. With the help of a few great partnerships, CCEP was born.
The Community Pay it Forward Program was created to raise funds for families in emergency situations, children who are sick, injured or need funds for school or church programs, veterans or veteran causes, local nonprofits or 501c3 programs, or private community improvement projects.
Community Dare to Care Outreach & Events is here to assist people with clothing, furniture, housewares, school supplies, and other critical needs with the aid of caring individuals and their donations in the community. Community Cares also offers a list of entertainment options to make events or parties a hit in the community.
Stephanie Simoes is a Senior Director at ONEHOPE Wine. She specializes in fundraising, gifting, private wine events & wine delivery. She works with people & nonprofit organizations to raise donations and awareness for various causes throughout the year. Stephanie provides favors, logo bottles, personalized gift boxes, customized refills & sets up shipping across the United States. What she loves most is that a glass of wine gives back your charity of choice! Stephanie has used ONEHOPE Wine as platform to raise awareness & donations for PANDAS Network the last few years as the condition has directly impacted her children.
Stephanie & Zak conduct a monthly show highlighting smaller nonprofit organizations, in an effort to raise donations, but more importantly to get the word out to more people about their mission. The show is called Community Pay It Forward ONEHOPE Fundraiser.
\Zak & Stephanie met almost two years ago and immediately knew they had the same mission in mind. After their first conversation, they were sure they’d find a way to work together somehow. Not long after, the monthly Community Pay it Forward ONEHOPE Fundraiser mission was created. Since then, they have hosted smaller nonprofits twice a month to share their mission & provide fundraising opportunities through each of their platforms.

Joshua Tullis is 27 years old. He currently lives in Kennesaw, Georgia with his wife, Kayla, and his newborn son, Thompson. He and his wife love spending time with their son as he is progressing through noticeable newborn stages. Josh also spends time reading personal development books and running, specifically in races such as Tough Mudders and Spartan races. Every day he runs many miles around the neighborhood. He also thoroughly enjoys various approaches to weight training. In return, that usually increases appetite, therefore he loves trying new foods as well.
Josh was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 12 years old. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that attacks the pancreas which secretes insulin. Therefore, those with type 1 diabetes must manually administer insulin daily. These insulin doses are dependent upon the amount of carbs consumed, but it’s not that simple. The types of food, lifestyle, physical activity, and many more everyday tasks largely impact the quality and control of life with diabetes.
This is why Josh is passionate about helping other diabetics take control of their life through everyday disciplines. Josh is now building Soaring Diabetics, a brand devoted to helping and coaching people through the challenges of diabetes.
