He Saw Himself In Them and Started An Orphanage in Uganda | Bakaki Umaru | Hilary Burns | S6EP15
I was getting facebook messages from someone I didn't know. He wanted support for an orphanage. "Yeah, right" I told myself. "I've heard that one before." But there was something about Umaru that tugged at my heart. He didn't give up. He was gentle and kind.
I started supporting his orphanage in Uganda. It just felt like the right thing to do. This conversation with Umaru is inspiring. His father died when he was 9 and his mother struggled to raise 4 children. Umaru had to stop going to school. He started farming and also learned to be a graphic designer. But when he was approached by hungry children during COVID, he found his calling. He has started Bridgepoint Haven orphanage and they now have 42 children.
They send them to school, feed them, clothe them, and give them a place to live. Umaru's dream is that one of them will become a doctor and remember him. He is truly a special man.
Thank you, Umaru, for the amazing work you are doing in the world,
