S4 E3 - Jimmy Shafe
Jimmy Shafe Director (pro-bono), Congo Hope Board Member, Education Congo Jimmy and his widowed mother moved to Congo from Georgia when he was 14 and she became a teacher at Central School for missionary kids. He graduated from The American School of Kinshasa in 1967 before returning to the U.S. for college at Presbyterian College and Georgia Southern University. He has served since 2003 on the board of Education Congo which works to provide scholarships and other support to Congo Protestant University (Kinshasa) and Evangelical University of Africa (Bukavu). In 2006, he founded Congo Hope and began working to support various hospitals, schools, and projects in the Kasai provinces of central Congo in conjunction with the Congo Presbyterian Community (CPC). His work with Congo Hope is an outreach of Congo Leadership Initiative, a U.S. based non-profit. Current projects supported include the Presbyterian Missions of: Moma, Mboyi, Lubondai, Tshikaji, Ndesha, and Bulape, as well as in the city of Kananga. Jimmy has developed trusting relationships with medical practitioners, church leaders, and numerous lay workers in Congo. In 1973 he founded and managed a training, publishing, and personnel support business, Career Training Concepts, from which he retired in 2022. More than 7 million middle and high school students and over 300,000 adults have participated in various training programs created by his team. Jimmy is an Elder at Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, an Advisory Board member for Shalom International Ministries in Clarkston, GA, and serves on the board of Congo Leadership Initiative. He and his wife Jan have been married for 54 years, have two adult children, and three grandchildren.
