He left behind two children. At 2.5 years of age, Sheilah was diagnosed with childhood cancer, and her family was told that she had 6 months to live, yet she is still here. God allowed her to survive. Sexually assaulted by a sixteen-year-old at the age of six. At 8, Sheilah watched her neighbor’s grandfather take a shotgun off of a gun rack that was located in his red 1976 red Ford pickup, run up to his wife’s 1977 Forrest green LTD, point the gun to his wife’s temple, and pull the trigger leaving brain matter spewed across the car. He then ran back to his truck, threw the gun on the seat, and took off in his truck. This was her first exposure to domestic violence. By the time Sheilah was 17, she had been sexually assaulted two more times by members of the high school football team. As a survivor of domestic violence, her ultimate tragedy was losing her eldest son to not only gun violence, but domestic violence as his perpetrators continue to walk free because the San Bernardino police department refuses to investigate his death due to systemic racism. Being a survivor of domestic violence herself, she became devastated when her eldest son met his demise, as she later found out that he felt that he could not talk to her about what was going on concerning his situation because of the stigma and embarrassment that he would face. She became even more devastated after learning that he was a teen victim of domestic violence. Because Sheilah’s son’s perpetrators still walk free due to systematic racism, she had to use her energy to do something positive that would make a difference in the lives of others, while also turning her bitterness into bitterness. Part of her healing process is helping others. Sheilah took to writing as she has currently self-published 9 books, and a play and is currently working on other projects. Due to the recent pandemic, there were many opportunities and events that were delayed, be it permanently or indefinitely. What Sheilah decided to do was to create more opportunities from a positive perspective that will assist victims, whether they are men, women, or children to raise their self-esteem, and bring about awareness of how domestic violence affects all, not just women, and how they can heal through the arts of music, song, dance, acting, and writing. As a survivor of domestic violence an entrepreneur, author, and speaker, Sheilah also works with the batterers to teach them how to unlearn the learned behaviors. Sheilah currently works with the Robey Theatre Company which is located in Los Angeles where she is being taught how to hone in on her crafts through writing with her plays so that she can use her creative abilities and incorporate them into her program. As a cancer survivor, a survivor of domestic abuse, an entrepreneur, an author, a speaker and playwright, Sheilah has a story to share of survival.
