"The Spike Protein is a glycoprotein that is composed of two subunits, S1 and S2. The S1 subunit contains the receptor-binding domain (RBD), which binds to the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor on the surface of human cells. The S2 subunit is responsible for fusion of the virus with the host cell membrane, allowing the virus to enter the cell and begin replicating.
ACE2 is responsible for converting Angiotensin 2 to Angiotensin 1-7. When this conversion is normal, it manages the following functions in the human body:
