S5 E23 From $500 to $57 Million: Dal Lamagna’s Blueprint for Business with a Conscience
On this episode of Crunching Your Growth, Phil Masiello sits down with Dal Lamagna, the founder of Tweezerman, a company he started with just $500 after leaving Harvard Business School and experiencing several business failures.
Dal went on to build Tweezerman into a highly successful brand, but what makes his story truly different is how he built it. He gave 20% of the company to his employees, helped make the business a founding member of the B-Corporation movement, and when the company sold in 2005 for $57 million, employees shared in $12 million of the proceeds.
Dal is also the author of “Raising Eyebrows,” where he shares his belief that business can be profitable while still serving people, employees, communities, and the greater good.
Beyond business, Dal has invested in films, peace efforts, social justice initiatives, and political campaigns, always centered around the same core belief: dignity for workers, equal justice, and using whatever platform you have to create positive change.
Today, Dal is leading the rebirth of IceStoneUSA.com, bringing his values of employee ownership, sustainability, and purposeful business into a new chapter.
This conversation is about entrepreneurship, failure, wealth sharing, conscious capitalism, social impact, and what it really means to build a company that matters.
Scaling isn’t magic, it’s systems. Crunching Your Growth brings you inside the playbooks of founders, operators, and marketers who turned good products into durable businesses. Hosted by Phil Masiello, a 4x exit founder, agency CEO, and author, the show unpacks real numbers, real bottlenecks, and the decisions that move needles: sharpening positioning, building demand beyond one channel, turning ops into an advantage, and evolving from founder-doing to team-owning. Expect crisp segments (What Worked, The Stall, The Fix, The System), on-screen frameworks, and case-specific metrics (CAC/LTV, retention, contribution margin) you can copy. If you’re building a consumer brand on DTC, Amazon, or omnichannel retail, Crunching Your Growth is your weekly working session.
