He flew the P3-Orion and assorted U.S. Naval aircraft, accumulated over 3,500 flight hours, and commanded Training Squadron THIRTY-ONE. He completed operational assignments in aviation squadrons and aboard ships spanning the globe. He retired as a Navy Captain. Jaime served in staff assignments as the Chief of the Naval Operations Strategic Concepts Division in the Pentagon and as both the Secretary of the Inter-American Defense Board and Chief of Staff of the Inter-American Defense College working in the international environment. In his final tour, he was the Military Assistant to the Inspector General for the Department of Defense. He graduated with a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and later earned his Project Management Professional certification. Post-Navy retirement, Jaime worked as a Navy contractor. He then became a camp counselor and maintenance man at the local YMCA Camp Letts and volunteered at his church with carpentry, painting, and organizational skills. When not working or volunteering, Jaime became an accomplished equestrian spending nine years riding and competing in the National Capital Adult Equestrian League (NCAEL) team helping his team earn the first-place Championship in the eight-team league. He also earned the Annual Sportsmanship Award and the Reserve Sportsmanship Award among over one hundred participants for being the best team player and for assisting other teams. After the NCAEL involvement, Jaime and two of his former teammates formed the “Go, Fight, Win” (a Navy term) Hunter pace team and went on to enjoy several awards and a great partnership. Jaime has two grown children, Stephanie and Paul, and two grandchildren, James and Seamus. Stephanie and her sons live in Chandler, Arizona, and Paul lives in San Diego, California. Jaime is married to Valerie Ormond (Capt., USN, Ret.) and they live in Bowie, Maryland with their three horses and two dogs. Valerie Ormond Biography: Valerie Ormond retired as a Navy Captain after a 25-year career as an intelligence officer and then founded her own business, Veteran Writing Services, LLC. She provides companies and organizations professional writing, editing, and consulting services. Valerie has authored three novels centered around a military family. Believing In Horses, Believing In Horses, Too, and Believing In Horses Out West has won thirteen national and international awards including Gold Medals in the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) book awards and first place in the National Federation of Press Women’s national communication contest. Her fiction and non-fiction stories and poems have been published in ten books, and her articles have appeared internationally in magazines, newspapers, and blogs. Her education includes a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College; a Master of Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University; and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Mass Communication from Towson University. She is also a graduate of Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families’ Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) program. She belongs to numerous military and Veterans’ organizations including Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and Naval Intelligence Professionals. She served on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Veterans’ Business Resource Center and is the incoming Vice President of the Military Writers Society of America. She lives with her husband Jaime Navarro, also a retired Navy Captain, in Bowie, Md., with their three horses and two dogs.
