S3 E25 From Tesla to Trailblazer: Toby Ricco and the Future of Electric Mobility
This week on Crunching Your Growth, Phil Masiello sits down with Toby Ricco, founder of Bimotal, an inventor, engineer, and entrepreneur who has been building things since childhood.
Toby started his first business at age ten, built his first electric vehicle at twelve, and became an engineering intern at Tesla at just seventeen. After earning his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, he joined Tesla’s power electronics team, where he helped architect, design, and ramp production of electronics across Powerpack, Powerwall, Model S, Model X, and Model 3.
Now, as founder of Bimotal, Toby is bringing that same engineering mindset to personal mobility. Bimotal’s Elevate system is designed to convert a traditional bike into a powerful e-bike, while still allowing riders to remove the motor and return to an analog ride. The concept has also attracted attention beyond recreation, including use cases like search and rescue teams motorizing gurneys for difficult terrain.
In this episode, Toby shares how curiosity, engineering discipline, Tesla experience, and founder grit came together to create a new way to think about electric mobility.
Scaling isn’t magic, it’s systems. Crunching Your Growth brings you inside the playbooks of founders, operators, and marketers who turned good products into durable businesses. Hosted by Phil Masiello. 4x exit founder, agency CEO, and author, the show unpacks real numbers, real bottlenecks, and the decisions that move needles: sharpening positioning, building demand beyond one channel, turning ops into an advantage, and evolving from founder-doing to team-owning. Expect crisp segments (What Worked, The Stall, The Fix, The System), on-screen frameworks, and case-specific metrics (CAC/LTV, retention, contribution margin) you can copy. If you’re building a consumer brand on DTC, Amazon, or omnichannel retail, Crunching Your Growth is your weekly working session.
